The all-new 2022 Toyota Tundra is ready to rock the full-size pick-up truck segment, with a bumper-to-bumper redesign that delivers more power, more efficiency, more safety, bold new styling, and a long list of new technologies. And with the choice of almost two-dozen model and trim configurations, there’s a Tundra for everyone looking for a no-compromise pick-up that upholds Toyota’s legendary reputation for designing and engineering trucks built to conquer the harshest climate and terrain conditions on the planet.
“We’ve designed the capabilities, features, and styling of the 2022 Toyota Tundra to reward loyal Toyota truck fans with a pick-up that’s worthy of replacing their current Tundra. At the same time, we’re confident that we’ve created a full-size pick-up sure to grab the attention of truck fans across Canada – regardless of what they’re driving now,” said Cyril Dimitris, Vice President, Toyota Canada Inc. “With 23 models ready to order, and pricing that delivers a strong value proposition, we look forward to helping more Canadians welcome a Tundra into their lives.”
Pick-ups start with power, and the 2022 Tundra delivers an impressive amount of grunt. All models feature Toyota’s all-new 3.5L twin-turbo i-FORCE V6 that outperforms the 5.7L V8 engine it replaces by every measure – generating 389 peak horsepower and up to 479 lb-ft of torque on most grades. This engine is mated to a new 10-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission featuring sequential shift mode, uphill/downhill shift logic, and tow/haul driving modes. This all-new powertrain is not only more powerful, but also 25% more fuel-efficient than the outgoing V8 engine, with an impressive fuel consumption of 13.5/10.6/12.2 L/100 km (city/highway/combined).
SR grades feature the same engine but tuned to produce 348 peak horsepower and up to 405 lb-ft of torque, with a fuel consumption of 13.1/10.1/11.8 L/100 km (city/highway/combined) for the 4×2 models, and 13.6/10.4/12.2 L/100 km (city/highway/combined) for the 4×4 models.
Additional Tundra grades arriving in 2022 will add self-charging hybrid electric i-FORCE MAX powertrains to the available choices.
All features – from frame structure to suspension designs – have been redesigned and reengineered to improve capability and ride comfort compared to competitive pick-up truck offerings. And numerous improvements have been made to not only increase towing capacity – with a rating of up to 12,000 lb, depending on model – but also make towing less stressful and safer.
Inside, whether CrewMax or Double-Cab, all Tundras offer generous and comfortable seating for up to five adults, with a horizontal layout theme and an instrument panel and centre stack that flow seamlessly into the overall interior layout. Premium materials reflect Tundra’s pedigree, while the overall design balances angular lines with muscular refinement to express the capability that lives under the surface.
The 2022 Tundra is the first Toyota to feature Toyota Multimedia – an all-new information and entertainment system. This system – which is wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatible – features newly-designed touchscreens and an all-new Human Machine Interface that improves interaction with the vehicle through sight, touch, and voice activation. Toyota Connected Services include Drive Connect, including cloud navigation with destination assist, Service Connect, Safety Connect, and Remote Connect. While many functions may be controlled via the touch screen through the same gestures used on mobile phone screens, the Tundra retains a large, easy to grip volume knob designed for use while wearing winter-worthy gloves.
As a Toyota, every Tundra also features a comprehensive safety package, including Toyota Safety Sense 2.5. The latest iteration of Toyota’s bundle of active safety systems is designed to enhance driver awareness and control. TSS 2.5 includes new features such as Sway Warning System; Right/Left Turn Oncoming Pedestrian Detection/Braking; Left Turn Oncoming Vehicle Detection/Braking and Risk Avoidance Emergency Steering Assist. Other TSS 2.5 features include Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Lane Tracing Assist, Lane Departure Alert with Steering Assist, Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, and Automatic High Beam. Additional safety features standard on all models include the Toyota Star Safety System, eight airbags, and an anti-theft alarm system.
